The Land of Dacarshu

The Land of Dacarshu

This half-hour musical is offered to school groups to perform free-of-charge to benefit non-profit groups that work to alleviate hunger and/or homelessness. (There are charges associated with duplicating and mailing out materials.) Regnuh, a fire-breathing dragon threatens Sylvana, the tree of life. A student named Arthur is magically transported to the mystical kingdom of Dacarshu where he meets an assortment of characters that help explain how the evil Regnuh gets its power and what ordinary school children can do to overcome it.

Based on a Haitian legend, this show was originally written in collaboration with students from Aldrich Junior High School in Warwick, RI and funded by the RI State Council of the Arts. It received one of the first Alan Shawn Feinstein Hunger Brigade Awards. The show has been recently revised and can be presented as a multi-media show that showcases each school’s community service efforts. It includes a script, a performance CD, a rehearsal CD, a production guide that gives suggestions for staging, and activities for integrating the show with community service learning programs. Permission to videotape performances is granted by RIYT, provided the tapes are not sold or broadcast. Email ann@RIYT.org or call 401-447-0458 for more information.
